The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few; where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe and where we live together freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.'
Labour has only been in government for four short periods of the 20th century. However its achievements have revolutionised the lives of the British people. The values Labour stands for today are those which have guided it throughout its existence.
• social justice
• strong community and strong values
• reward for hard work
• rights matched by responsibilities
The Labour Party has a strong tradition in the north of England and we are proud of how parts of our region by a Labour government. Across the region our Members, Labour MP's, councillors work hard for the people they represent to ensure a fairer future for all those living in the North East and Cumbria.
Labour Party members form part of their Constituency Labour Parties which cover each Parliamentary Constituency in the Region.
Labour North Regional Office is situated in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Regional Party is based in Labour Central - the Labour Party's headquarters near the heart of the city centre. Labour Central is also home to Labour Party Head Office (North) and the party's National Communications Centre. The Labour Party is the only one of the UK's main political parties to base part of their head office outside of London and its investment in Labour Central represents a major confidence vote in the North region.
