CALAMITY CLEGG STRIKES AGAIN!

LIB DEM LEADER TRAVELS TO DURHAM...AND CALLS FOR A POLICY WHICH COULD THROW HUNDREDS OF LOCAL PEOPLE OUT OF WORK

Lib Dems were left red-faced at the choice of City of Durham for their Crime Policy launch when it turned out one of their policies could throw hundreds of local people out of work.

Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg and his Home Affairs Spokesperson, Chris Huhne visited City of Durham today and pledged to scrap the ID Card scheme to fund their spending.

City of Durham is home to the Identity and Passport Agency which employs over 500 staff at its offices at Milburngate.

Labour’s Member of Parliament for City of Durham, Roberta Blackman-Woods MP said;

"It has today become clear that Clegg's way of funding his plans is to cut jobs in Durham's Passport Office which administers the voluntary ID cards scheme.

"Clegg needs to come clean on how many of my constituents' jobs he wants to cut.

"I have visited Durham's Passport Office on a number of occasions, including recently with the Minister, Meg Hillier, and I have seen for myself the excellent and very professional job they do.  I want to keep those jobs in this City, but the Lib Dems clearly want rid of them.
