Labour achievements in North West Durham:
- Labour has turned the area from an unemployment blackspot to one with a below national average unemployment rate with unemployment down from 11.3% in 1987 to 2.5% today.
- Since 1997, nearly £19m has been invested to provide new schools and improved school buildings, with new brand new schools in Blackhill, Tow Law and major expansions at Ebchester CofE, Lanchester EP School, Willington Primary, Moorside Colloege and Wolsingham College. Further investment is planned with a new £1.3m school for St Cuthberts in Crook and a new £5m Sixth Form Centre at St Bedes in Lanchester.
- Since 1987, the area has seen a 24% increase in the number of children achieving 5 GCSE's (Grades A-C)
- New hospitals in Durham and Bishop Auckland serve the Constituency, with a new community hospital in Stanhope and £8m invested in Shotley Bridge Community Hospital.
