Hands off the North East

Tory Leader David Cameron has let slip to Jeremy Paxman that he is targeting the North East for cuts.
He wants to put our local economy in the firing line to pay for his huge tax breaks for the 3000 richest estates in the UK.
We all remember the Tory cuts when they were last in power. They haven’t changed and have now revealed their plans to make cuts again.
The Tory Leader likened investment in regions such as the North East to the “old Eastern Block” and has put us at the top of his cuts hit-list.
Labour is investing in the North East’s economic future, bringing new jobs and businesses to the region. From the new electric car at Nissan, the new offshore wind-turbine factory on the banks of the Tyne to the £60m fund to help the Tees Valley diversify into the low carbon industries of the future.
David Cameron’s cuts would set this region back years.
In addition, The Tories’ want to axe One North East, our Regional Development Agency. One North East has played a vital role in securing private sector investment.
The Tories realise that their Leader has revealed their true plans and are now furiously attempting damage control. But they can’t have it both ways, they want to cut North East public sector jobs and then take away support for our private sector.
Under the Tories, the North East’s economic future would be bleak.
Today, we’re launching our “Hands off the North East” campaign, to back North East jobs and say “no” to Cameron’s targeting of the North East for cuts.

The Tories are a change the North East can’t afford.
