Labour opens Campaign Centres in Stockton South

With three months to go to the General Election, Labour today (5 February) opened their second Campaign Centre in the key battleground seat of Stockton South.

Veteran Labour politician, Peter Hain MP joined Louise Baldock, the party’s candidate for Stockton South to officially open a new shop front campaign office on Oxbridge Lane in Stockton on Tees.

Peter Hain held positions in both the Blair and Brown governments as Leader of the House of Commons, Secretary of State for Wales and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. Mr Hain served as Shadow Secretary of State for Wales under Ed Miliband before stepping down from front-line politics. He is currently the MP for Neath and is retiring at the General Election in May.

Today’s official opening is the second of the week with the Thornaby centre opening its doors to volunteers last weekend.

Louise Baldock, Labour and Co-operative Parliamentary Candidate said:

“I’m delighted that Peter Hain has joined us to open our second campaign centre. Peter is a life-long campaigner for social justice so is the ideal person to cut the ribbon.

“It is important to me to have a campaign centre both north and south of the river so that we are in easy reach.

“Being back on Oxbridge Lane is very special to me. I lived and worked in Oxbridge for nearly ten years and it is where I joined the Labour Party in 1992. An old Labour Party leaflet has been dug out of the archives where I was the editor 20 years ago calling for improvements to Oxbridge Juniors amongst other things. I will be putting it on the wall with some old photographs if local people would like to pop in to say hello and have a look.

“Our Thornaby campaign centre is as close to the town centre as we can get and means we are very accessible for anyone who wants to come in for advice or volunteer.

“We will always have the kettle on”.

Peter Hain MP said:

“I am pleased to be in Stockton to support Louise and her campaign. The campaign team here is working fantastically hard, out every day talking to voters about their concerns. The communities of Stockton South constituency have been hit hard by this Tory-led government, they need a Labour MP who will stand up for them. It’s vital that we win in  Stockton South to get a Labour government and we’ll be working hard between now and the General Election to ensure that this happens.”
