The government have failed to come forward with any plan for jobs and growth for the North East or the country - Onwurah

Following the publication of the Durham University / One North East report stating that
up to 50,000 jobs could be lost in the North East over the next five years due to spending cuts,  Chi Onwurah, Labour's Shadow Business Minister and MP for Newcastle Central said;

“This report underlines the terrible consequences the government’s regional policies. Their decision to axe One North East leaves this region very exposed as the spending cuts bite.

“The government have failed to come forward with any plan for jobs and growth for the North East or the country. They cancelled he publication of their Growth White Paper and instead we have vague ‘discussion papers’ while people here worry about their jobs. It is clear that regions like the North East need a government that is prepared to engage with the private sector and take decisions that promote employment and growth. It’s also becoming increasingly obvious that this Tory/Lib Dem administration isn’t a government that is going to do this.”
