Proud of the North header

Top Tory Think Tank Policy Exchanged has recommended to David Cameron that he gives up on the North.

Labour is proud of the North and its people. Tell us what makes you proud of the North and what you think of the Tory idea to send us all South!

Labour Colleagues, We are planning to have a peaceful public demonstration prior to the Council Meeting outside the City of Sunderland, Council Chamber on Wednesday 24th September 2008 at 5:15pm. Our Labour Councillors are in full support of this action. This protest will show our solidarity for the continued regeneration of the City of Sunderland and other northern cities. We believe Sunderland has a bright future and the damning report produced by David Cameron's favourite "Think Tank", The Policy Exchange has undermined the tremendous work that has been carried out over the past eleven years to rebuild a city decimated by the last Tory Government's economic policies. We will meet at 5:15pm outside The Civic Centre, Council Chamber entrance and demonstrate our support for the people of Sunderland. Our protest will end at 6pm, this will give you the opportunity to enter the Council Chamber's public gallery and listen to the business of our Council. This is our opportunity to show the Tories that we are fighting for our cities, for our people and our grandchildren's future. I hope you can come and support us and I forward to seeing you there and hope you will bring some friends too. Bob Price. Coordinator, Go Forth Go North Campaign. Those using public transport, aim for the Park Lane Interchange (for Metro users aim for the Park Lane Metro Station), walk through the Civic Centre, past the main entrance, to the Council Chamber entrance at the southern end of the complex. Car users can use the Civic Centre public car park (fee payable) on Burdon Road, entry is closed from 6pm, but exit remains open.

Not content with the media campaign against Gordon Brown, we now have Norman (on your bike mark two)Tebbit. Maybe the think tank is doing us a favour, because when the Political dust clears the choice at the next General Election will be forward with Labour or backwards with the Tories. Attacks on the Trade Unions,Public Services, withdrawal of all the financial benefits for the young, parental support, the elderly the list could go on. To those MPs talking down Labour, to others who claim to represent working people yet say Labour is in meltdown lets strike, heed the message. Working People still need a Labour 4th term. Look around the North we can all have policy differences with a Labour Government but the regeneration of our communities goes on a pace. A Labour Government delivers lets work for it with those we claim to represent. Wilf Flynn Jarrow CLP

the only problem i see with the north is when individuals are more concerned with their own furtherment than promoting community spirit. that is a tory value, and any other problems here can be easily attributed to tory ethics. sunderland is actually really beautiful in parts, and one of the great things about living here is we are close to the countryside, we have a loverly river with scenic walks, and also have reasonable beaches. we are a group of strong minded people here, and when this strength of will is applied in a positive communal way, then we have true greatness in our city. so, when people meet up at places such as mima, the national glass centre, newcastlegatesgead quayside etc, there is opportunity for individuals to improve their quality of living and life experience by sharing common interests. that is what the tories can't stand, disadvantaged people being happy and content. it's as if the tories worship the rat race mentality. maybe we mackems are just too laid back for this tory think tank?....or do they just want sunderland to be usurped by tory minded "am arlreet, jack" penny pinching misers by encouraging those of us who can't drag ourselves out of poverty no matter how we try to help ourselves, to encounter further problems by trying to move south? the whole notion is ridiculous, av never heard such short sighted, stingey rubbish in all my life.

I've never trusted the Tories and this report only underlines that mistrust. They can disown it, claim the it has nothing to do with future Tory policy, but try telling that to the ex-miners and ex-shipyard workers of Sunderland. Our city is being revitalised out of the ashes left by the last Tory Government. Today our future looks more assured that at any time since 1996, the last year of the last Tory Government. We are not going to allow our future to be destroyed, like our pit and shipyards. The North must fight, fight against this Tory onslaught that will remove the means by which we can rebuild our cities and help provide a future for our children and grandchildren. David Cameron, you can run, but you can't hide, yours and your croonies true feelings about the north have been laid bare for the world to see and we'll never forgive or forget them.

I am proud of the North and proud to be a Northerner. Living in Whitley Bay we are seeing million spent on regeneration with a new swimming pool, a redeveloped theatre and Spanish City. All these things are at the heart of the community. Regeneration is working and it angers me that this Tory Think Tank would prefer to give up on us.
