This region is paying a high price as a result of a recession made in Downing Street - Wright

Iain Wright MPResponding to the news that unemployment in the North East region has risen, Iain Wright, Labour's Shadow Business Minister and MP for Hartlepool said:

"These figures are a huge concern. The news that unemployment has fallen nationally but risen by 8000 in the North East underlines the fragile state of our local economy. This region is paying a high price as a result of a recession made in Downing Street. We have made repeated calls for the government to come forward with a plan for growth and jobs for this region. Businesses in the North East are doing their best to create jobs but the level of public sector job losses in the region are leaving thousands of people struggling to find new employment.

“We urgently need a plan for jobs. It's time for this out-of-touch government to start listening to this region."
