The aim of Labour North's Training programme is to help members and local parties, build up their local organisation, reach out into local communities and campaign to win elections.

Launching this autumn, our training programme is designed to ensure that all Labour members can play their part in building local parties that are campaign ready, outward facing, open and in touch with the needs of every local community that we seek to represent.

All training events are free, and are based on best practice. They will be delivered by training professionals, organisers and experienced campaigners and is open to all members.  With sessions for designed for those wanting to get more involved for the first time, to sessions designed for advanced campaigners, there is something for everyone.

Forward Campaign Planning
Monday 23rd October| 10am – 4pm | Newcastle
We want every seat to be campaign ready. This session will cover everything you need from the start of the short campaign to polling day itself.
This full day session will include;
• How to plan activity for voter engagement
• How to campaign as an incumbent MP/councillor
• How to engage your members
• A guide to using Campaign Creator
• Targeting and analysis of your constituency
• Bespoke campaign plans for the year ahead

Role Holder Support and CLP Officer Training
Thursday 26th October | 6pm – 8pm | Newcastle
Are you a role holder in your CLP or branch? This session is designed to help support you in your role.
The session will include training in;
• Mobilising and engaging with your members
• Communicating digitally with your members
• Best practice advice
• Safeguarding and equality awareness

Promote Training
Friday 3rd November| 10am – 4pm | Newcastle
Promote is the Labour Party’s new digital advertising tool, designed to help Labour activists campaign effectively on social media and integrate that into the rest of their campaigning online and offline. In this practical session find out why we’ve built Promote, how you can use it in your campaigns, and how you and your local party can get your message across Facebook and other social media.

Contact Creator Training
Saturday 4th November| 10am – 4pm | Newcastle
If you have never used Contact Creator before, or need a refresh, this practical session is for you. We cover everything from what is Contact Creator and how to log on to inputting data and searching for voters.

Effective Message and Media Training
Monday 13th November|10am – 1pm| Newcastle
When it comes to elections, your campaigns, and how you put this to the public can be the difference between winning and losing. This session will explore how to identify and create an effective message for your local area, as well as the best ways to get that message out to the public, including using the press.

Role Holder Support and CLP Officer Training

Why do we knock on doors? With Cat Smith MP followed by a campaign session for the National Campaign Day
Saturday 25th November| 12pm – 3pm | Teesside
The most effective form of communication you can have with a voter is meeting them face to face. The way we organise and drive this activity is through organising door knocking sessions and collecting Voter ID. If you are experienced or have never knocked on a door before why not come along to this interactive session as we share our top tips and great ideas to ensure you have the confidence and are having the most effective conversations with potential Labour voters.

New Members Event & Social
Thursday 7th December| 6 – 8pm | Newcastle
So you have joined the Labour Party and you’re not quite sure what to do next?
This is the session for you. Whether you want to get active in your area, offer up any specialist skills, become a Member of Parliament or anything in between, this session can help you get there. It’s also a great chance to get to know other new members in the region. Join us afterwards for a new member social with mince pies and mulled wine.

Membership Engagement
Monday 15th January |10am – 1pm | Newcastle
Labour Party membership has grown substantially in recent years across the country, and there has never been a more exciting time to be part of our movement. This session is designed to help you connect with members across your constituency or branch and harness the variety of skills they have to make your area as strong as possible. This session also includes how to use the Membership Action Report effectively.

Membership Training; Recruitment and Retention in your CLP
Thursday 25th January | 6pm – 8pm | Newcastle
Designed to help you build a strong team of members in your area by integrating recruitment and retention into all your activity, this practical session will cover who to target, writing effective emails, arranging a first meeting with a new member and what materials are available to you.

Effective Print
Monday 5th February |10am – 4pm | Newcastle
Print is one of the main ways we get our message out to the electorate, and it’s the biggest area of spend election spend, as well as being a logistical challenge.
This session will include;
• How to put together a print plan for your CLP both for the 2018 local
• Elections and for the next General Election, whenever it comes. Includes guidance on timetabling, budgeting and print in the short campaign
• Campaign Creator
• Targeting with Direct Mail and Self Mailers
• How to write good leaflet and direct mail copy

Campaigning as a councillor / council candidate
Thursday 15th Feb| 6pm – 8pm | Newcastle
Have you been selected as a council candidate, or are you re-standing as a councillor in the local elections? Then this session is for you. It will cover how to identify your campaign message and how to effectively campaign as a candidate, as well as sharing best practice and tips with other councillors and candidates.

The short campaign is the most intense 6 weeks, however this session will ensure that you are ready and prepared from the notice of poll through to polling day.

Whips Training
Thursday 8th March | 6 – 8pm | Newcastle
This training session is aimed at all Labour Group Whips.

Agent Training
Monday 19th March | 10am – 2pm | Newcastle
Election campaigning is regulated by legislation. In this session we provide an introduction to electoral law for prospective election agents and campaign coordinators, including the nominations process, expenses, donations and how to keep your campaign activities and material legal.

Do you run the social media accounts for your CLP, MP or candidate? Come along to this intermediate workshop on how to make your social media soar, with practical tricks and inspiration for great content.

A full programme of key note speeches, and a wide range of workshops on everything from campaigning to using social media, which will be a great opportunity to get to know other women members from around the region and to share your skills and experiences.
