Welcome for Labour’s plan to scrap the Bedroom Tax

MP_Emma_Lewell_Buck.jpgReacting to the news that a future Labour government would scrap the bedroom tax, Emma Lewell-Buck MP, who made campaigning to scrap the bedroom tax her 5th pledge during the South Shields by-election, said:

"I am pleased that Ed Miliband is committing the Labour Party to ending this unfair and unjust tax on the most vulnerable. This was a huge issue in my by-election campaign and local people suggested that the fight against it should be my fifth pledge. At that time the real impact wasn't being felt. It is now with people feeling real financial hardship. An estimated 50,000 in the North East, many of them disabled, are being hit.

"This was never about housing shortages. This is an out of touch Tory. Government making the most vulnerable pay the price for 3 years of their economic failures.

"If the Tories won't reverse this tax then I'm pleased the Ed Miliband has committed that a future Labour government will."
